S138 Playoffs
Dan Nessler "It's another season of Division II College Football Playoffs and boy do we have a special tournament for you this season. My name is Dan Nessler and to my side is Rockin' A-Rod Rockne to bring you coverage of the playoffs as we kickoff this Thursday Night."
A-Rod Rockne "That's right Dan, anything goes on Thursday night, especially on Monday night football!"
Dan Nessler "Monday night is when we will see the two best teams from this tournament face off to crown the new champion. Earlier today, we saw the team bus for Virginia State who was the defending champion from last season. A-Rod, who are some teams you like in this weekend contest?"
A-Rod Rockne "Well last year we had special lures from that Catfish_Jack fella, but this year we have the Douche!"
(Ladies in the audience scream)
Dan Nessler "A-Rod is referring to head coach Sportsdouche for the Morehouse Maroon Tigers who enter the playoffs ranked #1 in the coaching poll and a crowd favorite. This is truly a special team this season with their senior class covering all positions on the field. "
A-Rod Rockne "The Virginia State bus was pretty large, but Morehouse came in three busses, 1 for the seniors, 1 for their redshirt seniors and 1 for the rest of the team."
NORTH BRACKET
Dan Nessler "That's right A-Rod, they are loaded with talent and this could be their year. Without further ado, the brackets are finished and we can the possible match-ups. A-Rod, how do you see the North Bracket shaping up?"
A-Rod Rockne "Ferris State is the cream of the crop here, if any team has a shot to beat Morehouse it's these guys. Coachoatie is serving up something special, because from where I'm sittin, I just don't see anything to cook with! He has a special backfield and special linebackers, but how he puts up 40 on these great teams amazes me man. Special coach and kids here."
Dan Nessler "They pulled off some big wins over Cheyney and Northern Michigan on two occasions. I think he has a lot of the coaches numbers when it comes to game planning and that makes the difference in these big games. What about the rest of the bracket, who do you see competing for a shot at the final four?"
A-Rod Rockne "Long Island and Bloomsburg are gonna knock heads here. Two great coaches and the teams are very similar, I think Bigpoppa finds a way to pull it out cause I like their defense better and that's gonna make the difference in the end. I see Ferris State and Long Island knockin' heads here but Ferris St will find way to move on."
Dan Nessler "Yes and I don't think you can count out Hillsdale who lost to Morehouse and played Ferris State well earlier this season. Omcs' has the coaching and enough talent to pull out an upset."
SOUTH BRACKET
Dan Nessler "O.K., now we move down to the South Bracket where you got some power-house programs. I don't know about you A-Rod, but I like Northern Michigan here to pull out an upset."
A-Rod Rockne "The dark horse! Spthibodeau is not thinking about coaching, he's thinking about riding off to greener pastures. This is their coaches last season so the thought has been "checked out". But, did you see that game against FSU last night? Man that second half was special."
Dan Nessler "Indeed! 28-10 second half run and that's why I think NMU is going to win the South. Only Cheyney has the talent on paper to deny them their shot."
A-Rod Rockne "Well I think we all know who Dan's favorite team is this season, but I'm going to throw out mine and that is Cheyney. Hands down, this is the team to beat in my mind and I know you're going to say Morehouse but listen... Best secondary in D2 with a stellar Linebacker group and an elite defensive line. Their offensive line is as good as anybody and Jay Vigil is special man. Nearly a 76 core running back and it's simple, give this kid the ball and watch him go."
Dan Nessler "Interesting that we both picked programs who lost to some of the teams in this tournament earlier this season. I think that Valdosta St and Mesa State could also pull off an upset in the first round here as well. "
A-Rod Rockne "Both of those teams will play anyone, anywhere tough. However, I think West Chester is gonna turn it around and pull out a pincher."
East Bracket
Dan Nessler "Before we get to Virginia State, I wanted to point out that Shepherd won their first Conference Championship since season 115. An amazing job this season for coach dawgnuts who had close losses to Virginia St., S. Connecticut and Presbyterian who are all playoff teams. Their win over Tusculum last night 62-37 really showed what this team is capable of, how do you see them in the tournament A-Rod?"
A-Rod Rockne "All of these teams are fantastic, but this tournament is going to bring the heat quick. They face off against Texas A&M-Comm in the first round and their gonna have to throw for 500 yards again to pull this one out. I'm not sure they will have the ball enough to do that, but it's gonna be a dawg fight, roof!"
Dan Nessler "One of the teams I really like here is N. Alabama and Fazbear05 who know can pull out a game plan or two when it's needed. They pair up against a pretty solid Angelo State team in the 1st round."
A-Rod Rockne "Hey, Joeydefone had TAMC's number in the first hald and then crumbled in the second. This is a game of two halfs and I'm not sure they can do it against Fazbear. I see TAMC vs N. Alabama in the near future. But hey, I don't have to be a fortune teller to tell you that Virginia State is the team to beat here. Defending champs, new coach and looks the part. They beat Shepherd and Mesa State and balanced from head to toe."
Dan Nessler "They are a favorite A-Rod, but the coaches poll shows they have TAMC #3 and VSU #4. Who do you like in that match-up?"
A-Rod Rockne "It depends, do I get TAMC frrom week 6 or TAMC from last night? I'll take the one from last night who won 30-0 and only allowed 61 yards of offense. That's a championship performance if they can keep that up. But look folks, to win it all it's about consistent performances and Texas is lacking that, so I'm going with Virginia State."
West Bracket
Dan Nessler "Finally, we take a look at the West Bracket and here we feature the #1 Morehouse team. No doubt, it is difficult to see any of these teams taking them down. What is about this team that makes them so special?"
A-Rod Rockne "It's pretty simple Dan, you put in a senior at every position and then when you need a back-up, you grab another senior to fill in. Senior for lunch, senior for dinner, we got a senior bonanza! I didn't realize you can redshirt SO MANY seniors! 12 redshirt seniors Dan, twelve!!! The last time I checked, you can only red shirt 3 a season."
Dan Nessler "Indeed, I don't think we have ever seen anything like it. On defense, you have two defensive backs, two linebackers and two defensive lineman that are red shirt. Most teams would love to have just 1 in any of those positions. Then on offense, you have your quarterback, running back, wide receiver, tight end and two offensive lineman. Every position you need, has a 5th year player available."
A-Rod Rockne "The last time I checked Dan, you can only redshirt 3 a season. The Douche is a magic man and the ladies love him! The only team to give them a run for their money was Illnois St. in D-IAA who finished 8-5 this season in their pre-season and they still won."
Dan Nessler "What other teams can we see making a move out of this bracket? Humboldt State may be the other team to have a legitimate shot at taking Morehouse down."
A-Rod Rockne "Jaylien1 is the coach that comes to mind who could game plan around such a talent difference. On paper, they looks very competitive but Morehouse shines when it comes to subbing in and out your guys to get them water. They have been under the radar and had a close loss to Cheyney earlier in the season."
Dan Nessler "I think the Central Oklahoma vs St. Joseph game will be one to watch and that could go either way. Saginaw Valley St. is another program that could pull out an upset over Humboldt St. and W. Liberty State is coming off their 1st conference championship since coach Jibe's took over. That could be a win over Lane tonight."
A-Rod Rockne "I think you summed it up well Dan. It's Morehouse, Morehouse and More house because they are bringin the house this year, literally."
