Smart Dog's Top Ten (11 Games)
This is the opportunity for coaches to determine who are the top ten teams currently in Rockne DII. The top ten will start each season following the five out-of-conference games and continue until the playoffs start. All you have to do is site mail your top ten teams to me by 8 PM CST. Each evening the votes will be computed and the updated top ten will be posted.
Thanks to the additional coaches that submitted their votes today. It was great to see. I appreciate them and will gladly take them and may use them. Unless given the OK by the coach, I am not going to identify who wrote the comments. Again coaches can submit their rankings without comments.
#10 (tied) - Southern Connecticut - previously unranked - Won 69-0 over #142 Bentley. Still not sure about them, but they get a lot of respect for beating Northern Michigan.
#10 (tied) - Humboldt State - previously unranked - Won 51-10 over SIM. Coach that will give anyone a tough game.
#9 - Western New Mexico - previously #9 - Won 31-17 over #31 Midwestern State. Probably should be higher since they have four quality wins. Special team but their total team talent is ranked #14.
#8 - Winona State - previously #8 - Won 34-0 over SIM. Loves the 8th spot. Undefeated regular season is almost a sure thing. Based purely off the talent off the roster, they have the 3rd highest core talent in the league. Not tested yet, not sure if there is a more balanced defense in the league.
#7 - Cheyney - previously #6 - Won 71-0 over SIM. Top one-loss team. On a collision path with #20 Missouri-Rolla to finish the season.
#5 (tied) - Long Island - previously #7 - Won 48-0 over SIM. Waiting for the conference championship. Coach Bigpoppa knows how to win and proves it each season.
#5 (tied) - Bloomsburg - previously #4 - Won 27-6 over #44 East Stroudsburg. Three big wins. Superb coaching with #19 in overall talent roster.
#4 - Virginia State - previously #5 - Won 56-3 over #75 Virginia Union. Continues to move around in the rankings. Unsure just how good the defending champions are this season. 7th strongest team. Solid built from top to bottom with two play makers each at RB and WR.
#3 - Texas A&M-Commerce - previously #3 - Won 38-26 over #18 Angelo State. Also waiting for conference championship game. Very strong defense that's all juniors, double 70's core RB and WR. QB is the weak spot.
#2 - Ferris State - previously #2 - Won 58-3 over SIM. Waiting for conference championship game and rematch with Northern Michigan. Hard team to figure out how they win. Game plan guru here, doesn't always have the talent but finds a way to outscore his opponent. Coach of the year candidate, doing what he's doing with a down secondary this season.
#1 - Morehouse - previously #2 - Won 75-13 over 314 St Joseph's. New number one and the "smart dog" official pick to with the national championship. Team has had three decent match-ups and the closest was a 30-point victory. Fifth highest team core rating and 28 seniors, scary and insane.
