Game 10 of the Night
Previous GotN Recap:
Prediction: Long Island - 31, Southern Connecticut - 28
Result: Long Island - 31, Southern Connecticut - 24
Intro/comments/match-up: Long Island had the game comfortably in hand 28-3 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Between a rushing TD, a passing TD and a kick return TD by Southern Connecticut, the lead shrunk to 31-24 with 2:21 to go. Then Southern Connecticut recovered the onside kick and drove to the LI 38 before turning it over on downs. Game over--not so fast. On the second play with 41 seconds left, Long Island fumbled and Southern Connecticut recovered it and returned it to the LI 35. Last play of the game was a nine yard rush from the LI 24 to the LI 15. Unfortunately, maybe the wrong game plan was in place when 3 of the last 4 plays were rushing attempts. Regardless, an excellent, exciting game.
The Game of the Night will be another top-10 skirmish between two championship caliber coaches. We are going back to the PSAC where we find #9 West Chester on the road again; this time at #10 Bloomsburg with the winner having the edge towards winning the Eastern Division.
Team: West Chester
Coach: 2000champou # of Seasons: 9
Roster Breakdown:
Seniors: 13
Juniors: 12
Sophomores: 14
Freshmen: 11
Offensive Formations: Pro-set
Defensive Formations: 3-4
Losses: #3 Cheyney 24-31
Comments: Coach 2000champou will be trying to get back the conference championship trophy from Bloomsburg who took it away last season. West Chester is currently 5th in the nation in total offense with 561.1 yards per game and #15 in points per game at 51.3. Defense is a concern with games of 31, 24, and 24 points be given up this season. Defense has experienced with the defensive line and linebackers, but the defensive backfield are all sophomores behind the two senior starters.
Team: Bloomsburg
Coach: Jms245 # of Seasons: 6
Roster Breakdown:
Seniors: 11
Juniors: 11
Sophomores: 12
Freshmen: 16
Offensive Formations: Pro-set
Defensive Formations: 4-3, Nickel
Losses: None
Comments: Coach Jms245 got his first conference title last season and made it to the third round. His offense is pretty balance with 352 rushing attempts to go with 386 passing attempts. The offense is #8 nationally with 545.3 yards per game. His defense doesn't have the experience West Chester has, but it hasn't been a problem yet.
Tonight's Prediction: What a game this should be. Two offensive juggernauts with defenses that are pretty good, but not great. Both teams have been tested this season and have shown themselves to be top teams and a title contender. The "smart dog" could literally toss a coin to pick this one, but is going to go with his infamous hunch and pick against my OU "homer" tendency. Bloomsburg edges it out in a shootout 38-37.
