Game 5 of the Night
Previous GotN Recap:
Prediction: Hillsdale - 20, Morehouse - 17
Result: Morehouse - 55, Hillsdale - 7
Intro/comments/match-up: A big congratulations to Coach Sportsdouche and Morehouse. He now has not one, but two convincing victories over top 20 teams. Even though Morehouse showed they also have a passing game, to me it's their defense that has gotten my attention. Will Morehouse be this season's surprise team that wins it all? Time will tell.
With the last of the non-conference games taking place tonight, we going to take a look at last season's champions as #15 Virginia State travels west to take on #20 Mesa State.
Team: Virginia State
Coach: Lsteenberg # of Seasons: 1
Roster Breakdown:
Seniors: 12
Juniors: 17
Sophomores: 11
Freshmen: 10
Offensive Formations: Pro-set, I, Trips
Defensive Formations: 3-4, 4-3, 4-4, Nickel, Dime
Key Wins: Shepherd 48-31; Pace 27-3
Losses: N/A
Comments: Coach Lsteenberg took over this championship program after Catfish Jack moved on. The team is running a very balanced offense as they had thrown just eight more passes than rushing attempts after four game. With a win tonight, Virginia State may just enter the playoffs undefeated at 14-0.
Team: Mesa State
Coach: Justp3ach3y # of Seasons: 4
Roster Breakdown:
Seniors: 11
Juniors: 12
Sophomores: 12
Freshmen: 15
Offensive Formations: Shotgun
Defensive Formations: 3-4
Key Wins: None
Losses: N/A
Comments: Coach Justp3ach3y has his all-pass offense moving along smoothly with a 68.7% completion rate. Tonight's game will give that attack a good challenge and let the coach knows what he has before starting conference play against two playoff caliber teams in Western New Mexico and Midwestern State.
Tonight's Prediction: I see both teams being able to move the ball; although I think Virginia State has the better defense. That defense will enable Virginia State to get a couple more stops and squeak out a 34-30 victory.
