Game 6 of the Night

What a game between Pace and Humboldt State. Pace ended up with 167 more yards of offense, but partly due to missed 43 and 44 yards field goals in the 2nd half, Humboldt escaped with a 28-27 win. For Pace it was a heartbreaking but very impressive loss. Both teams will be tough once the playoffs begin.

Now comes the conference battles. Conference play begins with GLIAC leading the way with three teams in the top 10 with #1 Ferris State, #4 Hillsdale, and #7 Northern Michigan. NE-10 has two teams with #3 Long Island and #10 Southern Connecticut. After that, CIAA, NCC, NSIC, MIAA, and GSC with one team each. It will be interesting to see how the top 10 stands in 8 more days.

Tonight's Game of the Night is another battle between two top 10 teams. #1 Ferris State goes on the road to battle the defending champ and #7 Northern Michigan. Between these two coaches within the last five seasons, you have three national championships and another two appearances.

Coach Coachoatie is now in his sixth season at Ferris State. He has started off this season surviving a challenging out-of-conference schedule with wins over current #16 Bloomsburg, #8 Cheyney, and #19 Tarleton State. He is running I on offense and 4-3 on defense. His offense has stuggled to put up points in a couple of games, but has been bailed out by what looks like a fantastic group of linebackers. Although nobody has done it yet, I think the defensive backfield could be an issue with two seniors, three sophomores, and three freshmen.

Awaiting the opportunity to take down the #1 team, Coach Spthibodeau, who is in his 37th season, will get his first challenge of the season. He runs Pro-Set on offense and 4-3 on defense. The offense is stacked and will be the deciding factor in this game. Will they be able to score touchdowns or will those linebackers keep up their great start.

If this game stays under 17, then I can see Ferris State pulling out the victory. Between some of Ferris State low scoring games already and trying to score against Northern Michigan, I see Ferris State scoring 13 points. Northern Michigan won't have that same trouble scoring points as I see them scoring 28 at a minimum. That being said, final score will be NMU 34, Ferris St 13.
