Game 6 of the Night
With a big second half comeback, Shepherd kept the "smart dog" record unblemished, at least for another night. Even my other game that I was close to choosing also involved a fourth quarter comeback; although, I would have gotten the loss if I went with that game.
Now comes the fun part of the season--the conference games. More than ever with all the new coaches over the past couple of seasons, these games will involve many more human match-ups. For those conferences that have gained hall of fame caliber coaches with multiple championships in their portfolios, the other coaches need to whoop up on them now before they get their rosters in shape.
The Game of the Night pick was pretty easy tonight. It involves two unbeaten 5-0 teams. The teams are ranked #16 and #17 in the WIS Rankings. We are going to one of the most competitive conference in the past 25 seasons--the GLIAC.
Saginaw Valley State is ran by last season's Coach of the Season, Coach OJpick. He is in his 36th season and has made several deep runs in the playoffs over the past 13 seasons. He runs the I formation on offense, and speaking from experience, he will run or pass on any down and distance and will even go to all run or all pass offense. In other words, you won't know what to expect when you are playing him. On defense it is all 4-3. Looking at his roster, he has good depth throughout.
On the other side of the field, coach Bobbybd in in his 6th season at Findlay. He has been working on improving his team and seems to be getting better recruit classes each time. He has beaten two human coaches this season, but now has the misfortune of playing all of the GLIAC HCT (SVS, Northern Mich, Indy, Ferris St, and Hillsdale) over the next five games. We will definitely know where Findlay stands after that. He runs Pro-Set and 4-3. Coach Bobbybd has 28 upperclassmen this season and may be the season Findlay becomes a team that could win the conference title.
When the last play of the game is done, it will be Saginaw Valley with a solid 28-14 win.
