Game 4 of the Night

One more time choosing the Game of the Night based upon the preseason press rankings. Starting tomorrow, the WIS rankings will be used as a guide. Other factors are also used to determine what is the best or most interesting game.

Tonight's pick is a little bit interesting. Both teams were in the top 20 before the season began. Since I began with the press rankings I will use them again tonight. But after noticing this discrepancy in the rankings, I will switch to the coaches rankings next season. Not that I have paid much attention to the rankings, but after three games I don't see how the #2 team beat the #1 team head-to-head and not ranked ahead of them. Regardless, the game of the night is #1 Virginia State at #13 Fort Lewis.

Virginia St has coach Catfish Jack in his first season taking over from coach Coral Reefer. Catfish Jack has decided to just run Pro-Set on offense, discarding Trips that was also ran in the past. Defense stays the same with 3-4 and Nickel. Catfish Jack's team is on the young side, which didn't stop them from giving West Chester a tough game. One unique point about the roster is there are three red-shirt senior offensive linemen.

Coach Jong44 is in his fourth season at Fort Lewis. He got his team into the playoffs last season and is off to a 3-0 this season, but will have his first test tonight. Unlike many coaches, coach Jong 44 runs multiple formations on both offense and defense. Fort Lewis also has a young roster with just nine seniors altogether and just seven juniors and seniors on defense.

Unless Catfish Jack, I mean Virginia State have a letdown after their tough loss, I see Virginia State pulling out the win 27-15.
