S135 Playoffs Round 2
8 games to play and 16 quality coaches who will go head-to-head in one of the most competitive D2 Rockne seasons in a long time.
Let's take a look at 3 of the match-ups that could be the closest games in this round!
W. Chester (2000champou)
vs
N. Alabama (Fazbear05)
What a game, this tournament has some great ones this season.
N. Alabama is on a all time terror after winning the Gulf conference and an easy win in the 1st round. They knocked off Valdosta St. and lost only by 3 points to Presbyterian. I really like the RB Garner who boasts 80+ stats across the board and over 70 stamina. I think he is going to be a game changer in this match.
W. Chester knows what it takes to get back to the quarterfinals and was tested versus a tough Hillsdale team. They struggled in the first half, but made enough adjustment to pull it out. They have a really nice pair of RB's to use who they will be leaned on heavily in this match.
I think North Alabama is more battle tested and we have yet to see W. Chester in a big game this season. I don't like the LB match-up as much for Fazbear05 having to contain 2000champou's RB duo who gave up a 90+ yard pass to VSU's RB. The highest rated LB is only 60 and you would think this is an area to exploit.
Tough call, N. Alabama is going to have big plays no matter what and they put more pressure from their DL versus the pass. However, the streak finally comes to an end, W. Chester comes through with a huge win getting some big plays out of their RB's.
Verdict: W. Chester 34-27
Texas A&M-Commerce (akua29) vs Valdosta. State (Champ83)
Valdosta St. is looking to redeem their loss to their conference rival. Texas A&M-Commerce is looking for redeption after losing in previous playoff tournaments to Valdosta St. Two giants collide and only one will move on.
Champ83 lost a close one earlier and in some ways, this Texas team may be better than N. Alabama. The strength of Valdosta St. is going to head up against a really strong LB core and a senior heavy defense. They have a great duo RB team and if Texas struggles again could make up enough grown to control the game.
Texas A&M has a very strong defense that should match-up well in this one. Their 76 core RB is playing behind one of the leagues best offensive lines and will aid in controlling the pace of the game. The senior heavy defense matches up well, especially at Linebacker and Defensive Line versus VSU's RB's.
Trust in a strong Texas defense to pull this through.
Verdict: Texas A&M-Commerce 35-30
Ketucky State (Dukelegend)
vs
Winona State (azcowboy1)
Probably the game of the year if I had to pick one, because I have no idea how this is going to go.
Dukelegend has Kentucky St. doing godly things right now and averaging 650 yards per game with a team that probably shouldn't be doing that. It's questionable if they have met a really stout team with Saint Joseph having some ups and downs this season.
Is Winona St. going to finally be that team that stops their miracle season? It seems like Winona St. should win this game but their secondary is very open to Dukelegends high powered offense. KSU will face 5 freshmen once they get into rotation and that could prove devastating.
The key will be for azcowboy1 to keep the pressure on with sacks and throw away passes, while controlling field position for easy scores.
I'm leaning toward Winona St's secondary getting lit up in this one.
Verdict: Kentucky St. 38-30
On to the rest of the games,
Cheyney is a championship caliber team and as the defending champ, I don't see W. New Mexico keeping it close. It's been a great season for tmelonhead reaching the 2nd round again. Waregl72 can produce big points in the playoffs and tonight the talent difference is going to be too much.
Verdict: Cheyney 45-17
I like Saginaw Valley State over Midwestern State. MSU has put together another great season, but ojpick's deciding to go balance is a big deal. SVSU came into the season with the 4th best rated starting units and one of THE best WR's in D2. Verdict: SVSU 37-24
Northern Michigan handles business here as the talent difference is going to be too great to keep this close. Humboldt St. has had a great year, but it's ending here.
Verdict: Northern Michigan 51-20
Saint Joseph's has been up and down too much this season to overcome a very consistent Presbyterian team. I see rposborne getting redemption this year and move on.
Verdict: Presbyterian 33-20
Ferris St. is a handful and after they beat Northern Michigan, they are on fire. VSU hasn't played anyone of this caliber yet and tonight they will.
Verdict: Ferris St. 45-20
